The part nobody tells you
Transit bolts, and what happens to the drum without them
Every front-load washer leaves the factory with transit bolts, usually three or four, threaded through the back panel and into the drum assembly. Here is why they exist. The drum in a front-loader hangs on springs and shock absorbers so it can spin past a thousand RPM without walking across your laundry room. That suspension is built to handle spinning, not the sideways slam of a pothole on Ulmerton with 200 pounds of steel drum swinging at the end of it. The bolts lock the drum solid so it cannot move in transit. At install, the tech pulls them, and almost everybody drops them in a junk drawer and forgets they ever existed. Move that washer without them and the drum takes the whole trip swinging, and the springs, the shocks, or the plastic support arms absorb the hits. The machine will still turn on afterward. It just shakes itself across the floor on every spin, and you will never trace it back to the move.
The rest of the job is water and weight. A washer that has run even once is holding water in the drain hose, the pump, and the door bellows, so the hose gets pulled, drained low, and taped to the back panel before it goes near a hand truck, and it will still drip on the way out. Weight is the part people get backwards: the dryer is bulky and awkward but light, and the washer is the heavy one, dense and front-loaded, and they are two separate carries that get planned separately. Stacked pairs are their own animal. A stacking kit is just a bracket and hardware tying the dryer down to the washer, and it comes apart before the move and goes back together after, on level ground, in that order. That is hardware, not a hookup, so it stays on our side of the line. Channelside towers and Largo manufactured homes are where these two things collide most, because a stacked pair plus a 28-inch closet door is a measuring job before it is a lifting job.
- Front-loader: transit bolts go back in before the machine tips onto the dolly. If you cannot find yours, tell us when you text and we plan around it instead of finding out later.
- Drain hose pulled, drained low, taped to the back panel. There is always water left in the pump and the bellows. Always.
- Top-loader: no transit bolts, but the tub floats on suspension rods, so it rides upright, padded, and strapped, and it does not get bounced down your steps.
- Dryer is bulky and light, washer is dense and heavy. Two different carries, two different approaches, planned before anything moves.
- Stacking kit comes off before the move and goes back on at the destination on level ground, washer set first, dryer bracketed down after.
